Responsible Service of Alcohol Policy

Responsible Service of Alcohol & Licensing Policy

  1. Purpose

The Colonel Light Gardens Bowling Club (CLGBC) operates the club’s bar facilities in a friendly and efficient manner and in accordance with the requirements of the South Australian Liquor Licensing Act 1997.

  1. Responsibility

The CLGBC understands the importance of responsible service and enjoyment of alcohol by members, spectators, guests and venue hire patrons.

The club will fulfill its Licence responsibilities in terms of;

  • All servers will hold the RSA certificate
  • There will be appropriate signage
  • No alcohol service to people under the age of 18 years
  • Refusal to serve any patron deemed to be intoxicated
  • Availability of soft drinks, water and snack foods for sale at the bar
  • Maintaining an incident book and implementing enforcement of any infractions and
  • Displaying and implementing its safe journey home policy (alternative transport arrangements and holding car keys in a secure place).

2.1 What is responsible service for Bar staff?

The Club’s Liquor Licence requires bar staff are mindful of their personal responsibility while serving alcohol. If a person serving alcohol has been drinking excessively, they compromise their ability to perform their duties and make decisions.

The Club has a duty of care to all volunteers and patrons which could be compromised should a server drink excessively while on bar duty.

Drinking excessively while serving alcohol reduces the capacity to properly manage the business, for example the ability to judge intoxication (which servers are legally obliged to do). Handling club money and equipment safely demand servers of alcohol do not drink excessive amounts of alcohol while on bar duty.

The Colonel Light Gardens Bowling Club thanks our trained bar staff volunteers and acknowledges their commitment to the safe serving of alcohol.

2.2 Licensing Requirements

The Club will fulfill the requirements of the Club License by:

  • Displaying a copy of the licence near the front entry
  • Displaying the signs provided by the Government Agency administering the Liquor Licencing Act
  • Not serving people alcohol under the age of 18 years or those deemed to be intoxicated or on drugs
  • Maintaining an incident book and implementing responsible corrective measures
